This is what I was most excited about when I decided to upgrade. It’s improved and more feature-rich than ever. The new sprite editor is a heck of an advancement over the previous one. Now this is something I absolutely love about GMS2. ![]() There’s a new folder called Notes where you can create text files. Now you have to make them as normal sprites. One change is the removal of the Backgrounds folder. You can now create new views with your own folders for arranging assets in a customized way. The resource panel functions the same way as the previous one. ![]() It also opens up more quickly than the previous GMS 1. I’ve used it on a PC that is almost the same as the lowest required spec and it works perfectly fine. Under Preferences -> General Settings -> Workspace, you can change the skin to either Dark or Light. It is also more customizable, as you can move the panels and docks around and place them wherever you like. The GUI looks a lot more beautiful, as you can already see from the screenshots above. So, now you can do a lot more in D&D than you could before. There are also a lot of new actions, like loops, switch, data structures, buffers, ini files, etc. Update: You can use a mix of DnD and GML in a project. Nice change for GML users who didn’t require all those D&D actions sitting around there. On creating a new project, you can choose between GML(coding) and Drag & Drop. So, your project is either D&D or GML. Although the games created by the engine do work on them. For some countries, the Steam price is lower than the upgrade price. However, if you own any paid version of the previous GameMaker: Studio 1.x, you get special discounts which are available until 9th April.Īlso, check it out on Steam. ![]() Note that there is a free demo version that you can use to test the software, however it can’t produce games and has restrictions on the number of resources you can make. ![]() You have to purchase it to be able to produce games. Minit released on Switch yesterday (August 9th) and we recently talked to Jan Willem Nijman about how the team came up with the title’s 60-second loop mechanic.GameMaker is not a free tool anymore. Growing up toying with GameMaker and later turning it into a career, I wouldn’t dare dream that eventually GameMaker Studio 2 would let us put our game on a Nintendo console!” We’re delighted to be able to release Minit on the Nintendo Switch platform. Jan Willem Nijman, creator of Minit (alongside Kitty Calis, Jukio Kallio and Dominik Johann) added: “It’s been very exciting to stay in touch with YoYo Games and see this all come to life. We’ve already seen the first wave of GameMaker Studio 2 titles announced for Nintendo Switch, including Hyper Light Drifter, Minit and Undertale, and we’re excited to see the massive range of GameMaker Studio 2 content that will be launching on the platform.” James Cox, general manager at YoYo Games commented: “Since announcing our relationship with Nintendo to launch the GameMaker Studio 2 Nintendo Switch licence edition, we’ve been contacted by over 1,000 developers who want to bring their GameMaker titles onto Nintendo’s record-breaking console.
